Better living conditions through water management in Tunisia

Dorsch Impact implements the project in a joint venture with SCET Tunisie and supports the Project Management Unit across seven project phases:

• Project setup and support for 11 local authorities in developing or updating Local Development Plans (LDPs) for 18 sites, including data collection, participatory diagnosis and validation
• Development of Integrated Water Resources Management Action Plans (IWRMAPs), including prioritisation of measures, stakeholder engagement, cost estimates, and environmental and social management plans
• Detailed design for large-scale infrastructure, including water supply, irrigation, tracks, and the rehabilitation of hill lakes and water points
• Preparation and support for pre-qualification, procurement and tender procedures
• Construction supervision, management of environmental, social, health and safety (ESHS) matters, and oversight of the disposition fund
• Implementation of income-generating activities for farmers
• Training for farmer organisations, cooperatives and agricultural development groups, including tariff studies
• Coordination, monitoring, reporting and development of a communication strategy

Impact

• Intended improvement in living conditions for around 13,000 people
• Expected improvements in water availability and management in northern and central-western Tunisia
• Planned Local Development Plans for 11 local authorities and Integrated Water Resources Management Action Plans for 18 sites
• Expected improvements in the functionality of hill lakes, water points and hydraulic infrastructure
• Intended conservation of soil and water resources for agricultural use
• Intended creation of approximately 1,300 jobs and additional income opportunities for farmers
• Expected strengthening of farmer organisations, cooperatives, agricultural development groups and local authorities
